Repair jobs, from the first text to getting paid

A repairman's week is a stack of small, different jobs: a dripping faucet, a TV to mount, a door that sticks. Each one needs a price, a time and a payment, without an evening of paperwork.

How it works

  1. Customers pick the job

Plumbing repair, drywall, TV mounting, furniture assembly: your job list, with photos and the best times to come by.

  2. Quote by text or visit

Price small jobs from the photos in one text. Bigger ones get a free estimate visit.

  3. Send a proposal for the bigger jobs

Scope of work, materials in general terms, a deposit if you need one, and a page of photos. The customer accepts online.

  4. Schedule and show up

It goes on your calendar. Text the time, then "On my way" when you leave.

  5. Get paid and ask for a review

Pay buttons with the amount filled in, receipts made for you, and your Google link when it's done.

Mingo Home Repair, Lynchburg, Virginia

Hardyproof started with Mingo. He asked Allen, who built it, to help write up proposals for a few of his jobs, and the rest of the work was scattered too: requests by text and phone call, and good jobs slipping through the cracks. His request form, inbox and proposals were the first ones built: a form his customers fill in from any phone, an inbox that works in Spanish, and proposals that go out in English with the scope of work, materials, a photo page and online acceptance.

What you get

  • Your own job listStart with the common repair jobs and remove the ones you don't take.
  • Photos before you drive outCustomers add photos with the request, so you can price small jobs without a trip.
  • Jobs from phone calls tooAdd a job by hand while you're on the phone with a customer who doesn't text.
  • Notes and progress photosKeep what you did, what's left and what you bought on each job.
  • English and SpanishYour inbox in Spanish, your customers' form and proposals in English, or any mix.

Repair jobs that pay

  • Know your state's rules on job size. Many states require a contractor license above a dollar amount per job. Check your limit before quoting bigger work.
  • Set a minimum charge so a 20-minute fix still covers your drive.
  • Group small jobs in the same part of town on the same day.
  • Price from photos when you can see the whole problem. Anything behind a wall or under a floor is a visit, not a guess.
  • Never call yourself "licensed" or "insured" unless you are. Customers check.

Questions

What jobs can I list?

Any you do. Start from the common repair list and change it.

My customers call instead of texting.

Add the job yourself with "+ New job" while you're on the phone. Everything after that works the same.

Can I work in Spanish?

Yes. The inbox has an ES | EN switch, requests arrive translated, and the proposal editor turns your Spanish into English before you send it.
